Gull Control
Gulls and other related sea birds exist in great numbers along coastal areas, large lakes and rivers. Gulls are intelligent birds. They will carry mussels and clams high in the air and drop them on hard surfaces to get to the soft meat inside. Gulls have the ability to drink saltwater and freshwater, thanks to a pair of salt removing glands above their nostrils. They are good swimmers who can walk or run agilely on land. Gulls are scavenging birds; they will eat everything from dead fish and garbage to field mice and insects.
Lifecycle
- Chick’s take three to four years to reach maturity when they will begin to breed. Gulls generally have a lifespan of around twenty years.
Habits
- Gulls can be a nuisance in places close to coastal areas, Ireland being an island is very subsceptible to Gull damage. Flocks of Gulls often create hazardous conditions to low flying aircraft, and are a continous pest to buildings such as hospitals, buildings with air conditioning units just to name a few.
- A large buildup of droppings will lead to structural damage from the uric acid. Furthermore, their droppings can also pose a health risk.
Bird Pest Solution
- To prevent gull problems, we recommend proofing properties when pest gulls have finished nesting and have left the site. Environmental Pest Solutions carry out ‘proofing’ work which involves using different methods such as blocking entrance holes or installing nets, sprung wire systems or bird repellent systems that discourage birds from landing and roosting.

Pigeon Control
- Pigeons are pests to many and it can be difficult to get rid of pigeons, especially as they thrive in urban areas due to readily available food sources and fewer predators. They are almost universally disliked and sometimes described as ‘rats with wings’, feral pigeons can become a pest problem when they nest and/or roost on your property.
- Pigeons also carry mites and fleas.
Lifecycle
- Pigeon’s in the wild, pigeons have an average lifespan of between 5 and 7 years, though reaching 10 years of age is certainly not uncommon.
Habits
- In cities and towns, pigeons are dependent on humans to provide them with food, roosting, and nesting sites. These birds nest on window ledges, roofs, attic’s, in air conditioning units, traffic lights, commercial signs, and under bridges.
Bird Pest Solution
- The solution is usually straightforward – prevent the pigeons from roosting on your home or office.
- In the fight against roosting pigeons, our bird team has a variety of effective deterrents at their disposal. What will work for you depends on the scale of the problem and the way the problem is manifesting itself.
- Our aim is to deter roosting pigeons, rather than physically capturing them. Environmental Pest Solutions pigeon control services’ methods include: hanging netting over sections of the building to prevent the birds reaching their perch; or, achieve the same result by using spikes and sprung wires; or, if you wish to minimise the visual effect of the bird protection, we may be able to use Bird Free gel, which reflects ultraviolet light and appears as flames to a pigeon but is invisible to our eyes.
